Turbine Pump

Turbine PumpTurbine pumps are those kinds of pumps which have a high head and high discharge pressure for their size and speed. Turbine pumps produce heads over 1000 feet, at relatively low RPM compared with other pumps. This high head from a single rotating impeller is caused by the unique operation of the turbine pump. A turbine pump is thus a convenient pump which is suitable for handling relatively small amounts of liquid with high total head. Turbine pumps are typically used for water or fluid extraction in well applications.

How does a Turbine Pump operate?
As fluid goes from intake to discharge in just under one revolution, it circulates around and around. Each time it passes the turbine blades, it gains additional pressure. A turbine pump is a pump with a shrouded impeller and receiving the water at its center. A diffusion ring containing vanes surrounds the impeller and it directs the impeller discharge into a circular casing, which delivers into the eye of the next impeller in series. The diffusion ring converts the high-velocity discharge of the impeller into pressure head.

Types of Turbine Pumps:

  • Submersible Pump
  • Vertical Turbine Pump
  • Deep Well Pump
  • Sump Pump
Uses and Features of Turbine Pumps:

  • The pump has strong self-priming power that it can be used for suction from deep wells with continuous pumping even if suction or mixture of air occurs.

  • In any application, this pump enables automatic operation with high reliability.

  • It can be used in an above-ground or below-ground setting, depending on the application.

  • Turbine pump is constructed of a bowl assembly, impellers, a motor adapter and a pump shaft.

  • The pump has a uniform flow at constant speed and head.

  • The pump is of simple construction.

  • Individual stages are capable of being connected in series, thereby increasing the head capacity of the pump.

  • It is adaptable to several drive types-motor, engine, or turbine.

  • The pump has moderate to high efficiency under the proper head conditions.

  • Little space is occupied for a given capacity.

  • The pump has low noise level.

  • The pump is used in irrigation, for pumping water in fire suppression systems, for groundwater remediation, for wastewater treatment.
Applications of Turbine Pumps:
Turbine pumps are used for in variety of applications such as:
  • Agricultural Applications
  • Residential Applications
  • Mining Applications
  • Municipal Applications
  • Commercial Applications
  • Industrial Applications
