Oil and Gas Industry The
Oil and Gas industry plays a very important role in the economic and
political scenario of the world. Oil and natural gas touch our lives in
million number of ways every day. Together, oil and natural gas supplies
65% our nation's energy. They fuel our cars, heat our homes and cook our
food, generate the electricity that powers our daily lives and
industries and so on. Oil and gas exploration, crude oil refining, distribution and marketing of petroleum products, and natural gas distribution are the key sub-sectors of the Indian oil and gas industry. The high economic growth in the past few years, increasing industrialization combined with an ever growing population has created a lot of concern for India's energy scenario. India has 0.5 % of the oil and gas resources of the world and 15 % of the world's population. This makes India heavily dependent on import of crude oil and natural gas. The fact that India has not made any major breakthroughs in the field of renewable sources of energy, but still oil and natural gas would continue to hold a place of key importance in India's economy. Pumps in Oil and Gas Industry There are wide variety of pumps used in the oil and gas industry. Pumps are used in the digging and extraction of oil, natural gas from far beneath the surface and removed by tunneling deep underground. Together with other machines, these extractions are obtained by pumping. Besides the extraction, the actual transportation of oil through pipeline is done by pumping oil into the pipe. Again, pumps are used to transfer oil from petrol pumps to vehicles. Hydrocarbon extraction plants, refineries, petrochemical and gas plants run sophisticated production processes which require reliable pumping solutions that meet stringent industry specifications.
