Metering Pump

Metering PumpMetering pumps are positive displacement pumps which have with the ability to vary capacity manually or automatically, as per the requirement of process conditions. Metering pumps feature a high level of repetitive accuracy and are capable of pumping a wide range of chemicals, acids, bases, corrosives, or viscous liquids and slurries. Metering pumps can either be electronic or motor driven type.

How does a metering pump works?
Metering pumps transfer liquid in two stages: the intake stroke and the output stroke. During the intake stroke, liquid is pulled into the pump cavity via the inlet check valve. During the output stroke, the inlet valve closes. The outlet valve opens, and the liquid is forced out. The flow may be varied. Pump flow rate is adjustable by varying stroke length, effective stroke length or stroking speed. Most metering pumps are supplied with a micrometer screw adjustment.

Types of Metering Pumps:
  • Piston Pump
  • Diaphragm Pump
  • Dosing Pump etc.
Applications of Metering Pump:
Metering Pump is used in a variety of industrial applications such as:
  • Medical Applications
  • Clinical chemistry and medical equipment manufacturing
  • Chemical Applications
  • Petroleum additives
  • Electronic Manufacturing
  • Food and Dairy Applications
  • Agricultural Applications
  • Environmental Applications
Uses and Features of Metering Pump:
  • Metering pumps are usually driven by a constant speed AC motor.

  • Different drive mechanisms can also be used depending upon the application at hand which includes fixed and variable speed, electric, solenoid and magnetic drive.

  • The factors to be considered in selecting metering pumps are capacity, type of chemical, construction and environment.

  • Metering pumps with two heads can double the flow capacity of a single pump device. Pumps are also available with three or more heads to maximize flow rate.
