Magnetic Drive Pump

Magnetic Drive PumpMagnetic Drive Pump is a type of seal less pump which uses a permanent magnetic coupling to transmit torque to the impeller without the need for a mechanical seal for packing.

How does a Magnetic Drive Pump works?
Magnetic drive pump uses a standard electric motor to drive a set of permanent magnets that are mounted on a carrier or drive assembly. These are located outside the containment shell. The drive magnet assembly is mounted on a second shaft which is driven by a standard motor. The external rotating magnetic field drives the inner rotor.

Types of Magnetic Drive Pumps:
  • Rotating driven shaft : This pump is usually made of metal and it includes a pressurized recirculation circuit to help prevent vaporization of the liquid required to lubricate the bearings.

  • Stationary shaft : This pump uses non-metallic components such as ceramics and plastics and is best suited for light to medium duty applications.
Uses and Features of Magnetic drive pumps:

  • Magnetic drive pump is capable of pumping a variety of liquids.

  • There are some magnetic drive pumps which move abrasive materials, acids, adhesives, chemicals, concrete and grout, coolants, hazardous materials, liquid metal, or lubricants.

  • There are some for combustible, corrosive, high viscosity, or high temperature media.

  • It is also used to move gasoline, diesel fuel, and oil, ground water, potable water, salt water, and wastewater; sewage, sludge, slurry, gas and air; powders, solids, and rendering wastes.

  • Important specifications for magnetic drive pumps are like maximum discharge flow, maximum discharge pressure, inlet size, discharge size, and media temperature.

  • Power sources for magnetic drive pumps are compressed air, gasoline, diesel fuel, solar energy, alternating current (AC), and direct current (DC).

  • There are small DC-powered magnetic drive pumps (6, 12, 24, or 32 volts), single-phase motors (100, 115, 200, or 230 volts) and three phase motors (230--690 VDC).

  • Manually powered magnetic drive pumps rely upon hand or foot power.

Applications of Magnetic Drive Pumps:
Magnetic drive pumps are used in a variety industrial and other applications. They are as follows:
  • Agriculture and Horticulture
  • Dairy Farms
  • Breweries and Distilleries
  • Construction
  • Flood Control
  • Food Service and Food Processing
  • Power Generation
  • Gas Production
  • Aerospace and Defense
  • Automotive
  • Machine Tool
  • Mining
  • Medical
  • Pharmaceutical
  • Semiconductor
  • Paper Industry
