Grinder Pump

A
grinder pump is a mechanical device which is used to shreds solids and
which raises sewage to a higher elevation through pressure sewers. It is
a waste management device which connects septic pipes to a larger septic
system via a low-pressure conduit.
How does a Grinder Pump works?
Household wastes flow by gravity directly into a prefabricated chamber
located in the basement of a house or sometimes outside the foundation
wall. The chamber contains a pumping unit with grinder blades that
shreds the solids in the wastewater to a size that can pass through the
small-diameter pressure pipe. Grinder pumps are connected to septic
pipes and transport waste from households and commercial complexes to
sewage treatment systems.
Features of Grinder Pumps:
- Grinder pumps are fitted with special cutting ring systems that
are mounted to the pump's motor shaft.
- Grinder pumps are often installed on municipal sewage holding
tanks. Wastewater collects in a holding tank and when the water
reaches a certain level, a sewage grinder pump turns on to grind the
waste and force the wastewater through the pressure pipe on to the
sewage system. This pump enables the solids to be processed fully as
they leave the storage tank and helps to keep septic pipes clear of
debris.
- Grinder pumps in homes run by household electricity.
- This pump comes with an alarm system to let homeowners know if
something is wrong with the pump.
- Grinder pumps can also be submersible for use in high head sewage
applications where gravity is not sufficient to move wastewater.
- An industrial strength grinder pump includes a heavy duty
shredding unit.
- A grinder pump is made up of corrosion-resistant stainless steel
and powder-coated cast iron parts to withstand the processing of
corrosive or harsh materials.
Applications of Grinder Pump:
A grinder pump is widely used in residences, buildings, commercial
complexes and industries and factories where there is the chance of
accumulation of solid wastes and other garbages. It functions like a
kitchen garbage disposal, removing waste from toilets, showers, sinks,
and other water facilities of such public places including one's home.
