Dairy Industry

Dairy industry is a growing industry. India is supposed to be the world's highest milk producer and is all set to become the world's largest food factory. Dairy industry in India has come a long way from dependence to self-reliance as the total amount of milk produced has increased from 23 million tonnes way back in 1973 to 81 million tonnes in 2000.

When we talk about a dairy, we mean that a dairy is a facility for the extraction and processing of animal milk (mostly from cows, and even from buffalo, sheep or goats) and other farm animals for human consumption. The Dairy industry as a whole is involved in the production and processing of milk, and making various milk products like cream and butter, skim milk, casein, cheese, whey, yogurt, and other milk products etc.

Pumps in Dairy Industry
There are wide varieties of pumps used in dairy industry. Firstly, the raw milk is pumped into the milk truck to be taken to the processing plant. Raw milk is pumped from the milk truck into a storage tank in the dairy plant. There the raw milk is sampled, checked and then sent to the homogenizer and the pasteurizer.

After complete processing, the milk for consumption is again pumped into the milk truck and which is pumped out in commercial outlets. Not only the pumps are used for transferring milk, there are also pumps to transfer most dairy "soaps" and "alkali" used in the cleaning of milk lines. They make transfer of most liquids easy when required in a milk house operation. Pumps can also be used for bucket milking applications.
